LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We acknowledge that the work we do today as engineers, designers, and innovators takes place on the traditional territories of the Siksikaitsitapi, the Blackfoot Confederacy — including the Kainai (Blood Tribe), Piikani Nation, and Siksika Nation in what is now southern Alberta, as well as the Ampskaapi’piikani (Blackfeet Tribe) in northern Montana. This is Treaty 7 territory, and the historical and regional homeland of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Districts 5 and 6.

As engineers, we recognize that the systems we build — from infrastructure to technology — are not neutral. They reflect values, histories, and power structures.

It is our responsibility to not only acknowledge these truths, but to actively seek reconciliation by learning from Indigenous worldviews, uplifting Indigenous voices in engineering, and designing with — not for — Indigenous communities.
